Drill: Squeeze
Serving
Purpose: To increase focus in serving for safe serves and zone serving.
Personnel: Any number of players wishing to serve at a higher level.
Equipment: A ball cart full of balls, a net and antennae.
Description: Move the antennae in about 10 ft. in from each end of
the net.
The servers are to serve between the "squeezed" antennae.
Goal: To serve balls between the antennae and in the court.
The "squeezed" antennae force the players to focus on a much
tighter serving area.
Variations:
1. Keep one antenna in its correct position, and move the other to
mid-net.
2. Move the servers along the baseline to see various angles.
3. Do this drill "rapid-fire"-have a server on each side with shaggers
feeding them balls. Do this for 30 seconds. Keep track of number
of serves that are in, and declare a winner.
NOTE: Watch and see where the serves land. Even though the servers
may not
keep them all between the antennae, you'll notice that MOST of the serves
are
in the court. This drill works especially well with younger players.
